Gweneth Williams, a freshman at El Toro High in California, finished fifth in her debut in the Division 2 girls final by covering the 5-kilometer layout in 17:56.7 at Woodward Park in Fresno at the CIF State Cross Country Championships. Williams, who ran 18:28.0 on Oct. 7 at the ASICS Clovis Invitational in her Woodward Park debut, helped El Toro achieve 11th place as a team with 265 points. She was also the second-fastest ninth-grader overall from all five divisions combined.
